Rich, velvety chocolate-purple flowers.
BAPTISIA
Take two Baptisia-loving botanists on a trip in the lower Midwest US, add a bit of a dare, 14 years of countless crosses between the various species and ruthless selection and the result is Hans Hansen’s new Decadence™ Baptisias. They have a vigorous, upright, compact habit with well-branched flowers held well above their foliage and are vastly superior to all previous introductions. Ht. and spread 76-90cm.
(False Indigo) This indispensable native was once the largest crop in North America when its deep blue flowers were used as a local Indigo dye substitute. Their pea-like blue green foliage is a perfect backdrop for lupin-like early summer flowers followed by ornamental seed pods for late season interest. Once established it is an incredibly long-lived, durable perennial. False Indigo loves full sun, average to poor, well-drained soil and tolerates drought once established. An ideal minimal care plant for the cottage or weekend garden. Popular with Butterflies but not with Deer.
Shipped well-rooted in our 1 litre, 4.5" square pots.
